Living and working in Village Ajrara means that things move a bit slower than they do in the big cities. At Ajanta Handicraft, we are mostly focused on making things by hand like folks have done here for generations. It is not a high-tech setup by any means. We have our tools and our materials, and we spend the daylight hours cutting, shaping, and putting things together. The workshop is usually a mess of shavings and scraps, but that just shows we are busy. We don’t really have a big storefront; most of the work happens in the back where it is cool and quiet. People from the village often stop by to see what we are working on today. We take a lot of pride in the fact that we use our hands instead of just hitting a button on a machine. Every piece we make ends up looking a little bit different from the last one, which is just how handmade stuff goes. It takes a lot of patience to do this kind of work, especially when the materials don't want to cooperate. We don't have a big marketing team or anyone like that. It is just a few of us who know how to handle the tools and want to keep these traditions going. Sometimes the work is hard on the back, but seeing a finished item makes it worth the trouble. We've been in Ajrara for years and the community knows our work well.
