A Classic Handicraft

Our workshop is down Gali Number 17 in the Teliwada area, specifically in Karimnagar’s Ansar Block. We are pretty close to the IT office, so people use that as a landmark when they visit. We work on various types of handicrafts, mostly things made by hand using traditional methods. It’s a small space, and the air is often filled with the smell of wood and polish. There are about four of us who sit here and work on different pieces throughout the day. We don't have a website or anything like that. People just know us from being in the neighborhood for so long. The street outside is narrow and can get crowded with rickshaws and delivery bikes. We have tools that have been passed down for a while. It’s slow work, and you can’t really rush it if you want it to look decent. Sometimes we sit on the floor to work because it’s more comfortable for certain tasks like carving or painting. We don't have a big sign outside, just a small door that stays open during the day. Most of what we make gets sent to bigger shops in the city or sold to people who stop by our little alley. It’s a simple life, focused on making things with our hands. We don't do much talking while we work, just the sound of the tools. We take our time to make sure each piece is solid before it leaves.
