Masoom School is over on Govardhan Road in the Krishna Nagar area of Mathura. It’s a very busy part of town because of all the people going towards the temples and the markets. The school sits on a 54-B plot and it’s a simple building that serves the local community. We have children from the nearby houses coming here every day. The classrooms are basic with standard desks and chairs that have seen a lot of use over the years. There is a small gate at the front where the watchman sits and greets everyone. Inside, there’s a bit of a yard where the kids can play during their lunch break. You can hear the sound of the traffic from Govardhan Road all day long, especially the horns. The teachers use the blackboards and keep their chalk and dusters in the small cupboards in each room. We have a small office where we take the fees and talk to parents about their kids. Mathura gets very dusty, so we have to clean the floors and desks every single morning before the kids arrive. It’s not a fancy private school with a swimming pool; it’s just a regular place for local kids to get their education. The building has been painted a few times but the sun is quite harsh here and fades the colors. We have a few fans in each room to help with the summer heat. It’s a steady, daily routine for us.
