Kaliachak College

Out here in Malda, Kaliachak College has its place in Sultanganj. It is a bit of a distance from the main city hub, but people know where we are. The post office is nearby and that is how we get most of our mail. The college stays busy with students coming in from different parts of the district. Some take the bus and others walk quite a way. Our buildings are simple brick and concrete. Inside, the hallways can get a little noisy when classes change, but that is how it goes. The professors sit in their rooms and wait for the next lecture to start. We have a library where it is supposed to be quiet, but someone is always whispering. It gets really humid here in West Bengal, so the fans are always going at full speed. We do not have fancy air conditioning in every corner. The grounds are mostly kept clean, though sometimes the grass grows a bit too long after the rains. Students sit under the trees when they have a break. It is just a regular college where people come to get their degrees and move on with their lives. We handle the admissions and the exams as they come. There is always something to fix, like a leaky tap or a fan that stopped working. It is a lot of work but it keeps the place running for the local youth.
