We are the Majuli River Bank Farmer Producercompany Limited, and you can find us at Gauri Bora’s place in Jugunidhari Gaon. This is near the Auniati Satra post office in the Kamalabari area of Majuli. Being on an island like Majuli means our farming is very much tied to the river and the seasons. We have to deal with the floods every year, which brings good silt for the crops but also a lot of trouble. We are a group of farmers who live along the river bank. Our company is just a way for us to pool our resources and get our vegetables and other crops to the markets in Jorhat or further away. We meet at Gauri's house to talk about what we are going to plant next or how to get the harvest across the water. It’s a simple setup. There are no desks or computers for the most part, just us sitting around and figuring things out. The life of a farmer here is quiet but busy. We don't have a lot of marketing or fancy brochures. We just focus on the soil and the river. People in the village know who we are, and we mostly just work with our neighbors. It’s a tough life sometimes, especially when the river rises too high, but we stick together as a producer company to make things a little easier for everyone involved. That is just how we do things on the river bank here.
