Lekope Majuli Women Farmer Producer Company Limited is a group of us women working together out of Malaya Cjapori in the Kharatipar area. Majuli is a unique place to live, but the farming can be quite a challenge with the river and the changing seasons. We set this up to help the women farmers here get a better handle on their produce. Most of our days are spent out in the fields or meeting at someone's house in Kharatipar to discuss the week's work. We aren't a big corporation with shiny offices; we usually have mud on our boots and dirt under our fingernails. It’s a lot of work balancing the farming with everything else we have to do at home. We grow what we can and try to make sure nothing goes to waste. The community in Malaya Cjapori is tight-knit, so everyone knows what’s going on with the company. We don't use complicated language because we don't need to. We just want to make sure our families are taken care of and the land stays healthy. Sometimes the floods make things difficult, but we’ve learned how to deal with that over the years. It’s just us doing what we’ve always done, just a bit more organized now. We take it one day at a time and hope for good weather so the crops stay safe in the ground.
