Our base is at 26, East Veli Street. If you know the area, you know it’s always crowded with traffic and people moving about. S L S Sri Subramaniya Lorry Services has been part of this street for quite a while. We deal with lorries and transport, so things are usually pretty loud and greasy around here. We don't have a fancy waiting room or anything. It’s just an office with some old chairs and a lot of logbooks. We spend a lot of time on the phone coordination where the drivers are and when the loads will arrive. It’s a lot of juggling. Sometimes a truck breaks down or a road is closed, and we have to scramble to fix the plan. That’s just the nature of transport. We don't sugarcoat things. If a delivery is going to be late, we just say so. People appreciate the honesty, I think. We’ve lived and worked on East Veli Street for years, so we’ve seen the changes in the neighborhood. It’s a tough business, but we’re used to the long hours. We don't use any fancy software, just pen and paper and a lot of memory. It works for us. We just keep the wheels turning as best as we can every single day. It’s a simple life, focused on getting things from one place to another.
