Organic Kheti

We started Organic Kheti at 14, Alampatti Pudur Road in Chithanatham because we wanted to get back to a more basic way of doing things. It’s a quiet spot away from the main rush, which suits us just fine. We spend a lot of our time talking with local growers and checking on how the crops are looking before they come in from the fields. It’s not always easy because organic stuff can be tricky to manage and it doesn't always look perfect like the things you see in the big city supermarket shops. But that’s the whole point of it, really. Our building is very simple, just enough space for us to sort things out and keep them fresh for the customers. We’ve got a small team, mostly people from around Chithanatham who understand the land and how it works. We don’t use a lot of fancy words or technical terms to describe what we do here. We just want to give out food that hasn’t been messed with too much. Sometimes the supply is low if the rain doesn't come on time, and we just have to explain that situation to everyone. People around here are generally quite understanding about nature. The road outside is usually peaceful, except when the school bus goes by in the morning. We spend our days mostly on our feet, moving crates and talking to the farmers about their crops. It’s a slow kind of business compared to the rest of the world.
