Shree Durga Soap Factory is on the second floor at 14-B in the Gurudwara Shaheedan Pheruman Market. Being right on G. T. Road means there is never a quiet moment. You can hear the horns and the traffic all day long while we’re working. We make different kinds of soap in our space. Carrying the raw materials up to the second floor is a bit of a workout, but we’ve got a system for it now. The market is always crowded with people buying all sorts of things, so we fit right in with the general hustle. Our workshop isn't very big, so we have to keep things very tidy to make room for the drying racks. We spend a lot of time cutting the soap into the right sizes and stamping them. It’s a family-style environment where everyone knows what to do without being told much. We don't have a big HR department or corporate rules. We just show up, do the mixing, and make sure the batches are ready for the wholesalers who come by. Sometimes the elevator in the building acts up and we have to use the stairs, which isn't fun with heavy crates. But we’ve been here for a while and the location is good for business. We just keep our heads down and do the work. It is loud and busy, but we like it.
