Our little shop is right in the middle of the Mahavir Mandir Market in Ghumar Mandi. It’s at shop number 21. If you know the market, you know it’s always packed with people and scooters. We spend most of the day hunched over a workbench with small screwdrivers and magnifying glasses fixing phone screens or changing out old batteries. It’s a small space. It gets a bit cramped when three or four customers are standing inside waiting for their repairs. The noise from the market outside is constant, with the temple bells and people shouting, but you get used to it after a week or two. We have shelves full of small plastic bins with screws and spare parts that only we can really make sense of. Often, people come in with phones that have been dropped in water or have cracked screens, and we just tell them what can be done. It’s honest work. We like being in the heart of Ghumar Mandi because there’s always something happening. We don't have a big staff, just a couple of us who know our way around a circuit board. Most of the day is spent under the bright desk lamps trying to see those tiny connections. It’s not a glamorous job, but it keeps us busy and we like seeing someone’s face when their phone finally turns back on. We've been here in Mahavir Mandir Market for a long time and we plan to keep at it for as long as people keep breaking their devices.
