Orchit Beauty Salon & Training Centre has been on Chimni Road in Shimlapuri for a long time now. We are quite close to Mairh Di Chakki, which is a landmark everyone around here uses to give directions. The place is split between the salon part and the area where I teach the younger girls how to do hair and makeup properly. It gets quite noisy sometimes with all the talking and the sound of the hair dryers going at once. Ludhiana is a busy city and this part of Shimlapuri is no different, with bikes and rickshaws always passing by outside the door. We handle a lot of different things, from basic eyebrows to bridal work when it’s the right season for it. The training side keeps me busy because the students always have so many questions about how to hold the thread or mix the colors. I started this because I wanted a way to work for myself and now it’s just my daily life. The tea man comes by twice a day and we usually take a short break then. We have some old posters on the walls that show different hairstyles, though most people just ask for the same thing every month. It’s not a big corporate place, just a local spot where girls come to learn a skill and neighbors come to get ready for a party. We just try to do an honest job every day.
