New Like Hair Salon

If you walk around Upkaar Nagar in Ludhiana, you'll find us at the corner shop in Civil Lines. New Like Hair Salon is right near Jatto Ka Gurudwara, so you can often hear the prayers and the music coming from there during the day. It’s a good spot to be. Being on the corner means we get a lot of light through the windows, which helps when you're trying to get a haircut just right. Ludhiana is a busy city, always moving, but inside the salon, things slow down a bit. I’ve got the usual setup with the leather chairs and the drawers full of combs and clips. The floor is usually covered in bits of hair until I get a chance to sweep it again. I’ve been working here for a while now, and I know most of the guys who live on this street. They come in for a quick trim or a shave before heading off to their offices or factories. We don't use any complicated machines, just the tools I’ve used for years. The walls have a few posters of different styles, but most people just tell me what they want and I get to work. It’s a simple life, cutting hair and listening to the city move outside the door. I like being part of this neighborhood near the Gurudwara. It feels like home to me and the people who visit. You just stop by when you have time.
