Mehra Electrode Co. is over at 341, Industrial Area-A, not too far from Cheema Chowk. If you know that area, you know the traffic can be a real mess around lunch time. Our place is right in the middle of all the other workshops and warehouses. We mostly handle welding electrodes and related bits. The shelves are heavy with boxes, and there is always that faint smell of metal and chemicals in the air. It’s not a bad smell, just what you expect in a place like this. We spend a lot of time checking the stock to see what we are running low on. Sometimes we have to wait for the delivery trucks to navigate the narrow lanes near the chowk, which can take a while. Our office is just a simple room with a couple of chairs for visitors and a desk that’s seen better days. We don’t go for anything fancy. People come in with their orders, we check what’s in the back, and we get it sorted out for them. It’s a straightforward way to spend the day. We’ve seen the neighborhood change quite a bit over the years, with new shops opening up and old ones closing down, but we just keep doing our thing. The tea stall nearby is where we usually end up talking to the other shop owners when things get quiet in the afternoon.
