Mahavir Brick Works

We operate out of 638/1, Maler Kotla House, which is right across from the Old D.M.C. in Civil Lines. It’s an interesting spot because Civil Lines has its own character, a bit different from the rest of the city. Mahavir Brick Works has been part of this landscape for a good stretch of time. The yard is usually full of red earth and stacks of finished bricks. Since we’re opposite the old medical college, people use that as a landmark to find us. It’s not a corporate headquarters; it’s a working brick kiln and yard. The work is physical and depends a lot on the seasons. When it’s dry, we’re moving at full speed, firing the bricks and getting them ready for transport. When the rains come to this part of town, things slow down and we spend more time maintaining the equipment. We have workers who have been with us for years, and they know exactly how the soil here behaves. We don't spend money on fancy advertisements or big signs. Most of our work comes from people who know the location or have seen our trucks in the neighborhood. It’s dusty, the sun is hot, and the work is hard, but it’s what we know. We just focus on the rhythm of the work and making sure we have enough stock for the local builders. It is a simple life centered around the kiln and the clay we use. Anyway, we just keep at it day after day.
