Mahadev Departmental Store

You can find Mahadev Departmental Store at 199/1A in New Kartar Nagar, Ludhiana. We are located right near the Dhuri Line, so you can hear the trains passing by quite often during the day. The sound used to bother me, but now I don’t even notice it. I open the shop early to catch the people heading out for work. We have a bit of everything here, from kitchen staples to cleaning supplies and some stationery. I spend a lot of time moving boxes around to make sure the newest stock is at the back. Ludhiana winters are very cold, so I usually have a small heater near my feet behind the counter. The shop is not huge, but we make use of all the wall space with high shelves. I use a stool to reach the top where I keep the bulky items. People from New Kartar Nagar are my main customers and we’ve become quite familiar over time. I handle the billing myself on a small counter near the door. It is a bit of a climb for the delivery guys when they bring the heavy sacks, but we manage. Some days the shop is very busy and other times I just sit and watch the trains go past. It’s a straightforward business where we just provide what the local families need for their homes. I close up when the last train for the evening passes by.
