We run these guitar classes right here in the Civil Line area. It’s a fairly central spot, so it’s easy for people to drop by after work or school. The room we use isn't very big, and it’s usually filled with guitar cases and a couple of spare amps. We started this because there weren't many places nearby to just sit and play. It’s a very informal setup. Sometimes we are tuning instruments for half the lesson, and other times we just get straight into the chords. We teach whoever shows up, whether they are kids or older folks who finally have time to learn a hobby. There is no strict curriculum or anything like that. We just look at what the student wants to play and go from there. Civil Line is a decent neighborhood, so it stays pretty calm outside while we are making noise inside. Sometimes the neighbors might complain if we turn the volume up too high, so we try to be mindful. We don't have a big staff, just a couple of us who know our way around a fretboard. The walls have a few old posters on them, and the carpet is a bit worn out from all the foot traffic. It’s a comfortable place to hang out and learn a few songs without any pressure or fancy equipment getting in the way.
