About Bhartiya Sangeet Kala Kendra – Education in Ludhiana
We’ve been here at Ludhiana He 45/A for quite some time now. Most days it’s pretty loud because there’s always someone practicing a harmonium or trying to get the tabla beats right. We started Bhartiya Sangeet Kala Kendra because there weren’t many places nearby where you could just sit and learn traditional music without it being a whole big deal. The rooms aren't very fancy but they do the job. We have students coming in the evenings after school or work, and sometimes the little kids are just running around before their lesson starts. It gets a bit chaotic when the singing classes overlap with the instrument ones, but that’s just how it is. We spend a lot of time tuning instruments and making sure the strings on the sitars are okay. Sometimes the weather in Ludhiana makes the wood act up, so we have to keep an eye on that. We don't really have a big staff, just a few of us who know a bit about music and like to pass it on to whoever shows interest. People stop by to ask about timings or just to listen for a minute from the street. It’s a simple setup. We keep the doors open mostly to let some air in, though the street noise comes in too. It’s just a local place for people who want to spend an hour or two with music and not worry about much else. We’ve grown used to the constant sound.
