Chopra Chess Inc.

Hall Bazar is a place where you can hear everything at once. Our spot at 1507/12 has seen a lot of changes over the years but Chopra Chess Inc. stays pretty much the same. We have stacks of chessboards leaning against the walls and boxes of pieces that we have to sort through every day. It gets quite dusty because the street outside is always under some kind of repair or just busy with rickshaws. We don't have a big fancy showroom or anything like that. It is just a shop where we spend our mornings and evenings. Most people who come in are looking for something specific, like a wooden set that feels heavy in the hand. We spend a lot of time checking the weights of the knights and bishops. Sometimes a customer will stay and talk for an hour about a game they played years ago. We listen while we pack orders. The tea guy comes around twice a day and that is usually the highlight of the afternoon when things slow down. The sun hits the front window in a certain way in the winter that makes the wood smell nice. It's not a complicated life here. We just make sure the pieces are all in the box before they leave. Sometimes we find a stray pawn under a shelf and have to figure out which set it belongs to. It happens more than you would think.
