I run Chauhan Mehandi Art. You can find us at Jour Sarhak in the Ghumar Mandi area of Ludhiana. If you know Ludhiana, you know Ghumar Mandi is the place to be for shopping and getting ready for weddings. We are right in the thick of it. My family has been doing mehandi for a long time. It is a skill you learn by doing it over and over again until your hands just move on their own. We sit on our stools and wait for customers, especially during Karwa Chauth or the wedding season. Those days are crazy. We do not even have time to eat because so many ladies are waiting in line. It is a small operation, just a few of us working together. We use good cones that we mostly mix ourselves. People come to us because they know we do not rush the patterns. Whether it is a full bridal set or just a small design on the palm, we treat it the same. Jour Sarhak is a busy street, so there is always noise and people passing. It feels alive. Sometimes we just sit outside and watch the cars go by when it is quiet. We do not have a big fancy office. Our work is on the hands of the people who visit us. It is a simple business built on hard work and staying in one place for many years.
