Brar Seed Farm

Brar Seed Farm is located out on Firozpur Road. It’s a place that smells like earth and dry grain most of the time. We aren't a big corporation, just a family-run spot that focuses on seeds for the local farmers who live nearby. The building itself is quite plain, just a large room where we keep the bags stacked up against the walls. We spend a lot of our time worrying about the weather because that’s what matters most in this line of work. If the rain doesn’t come at the right time, everyone has a hard year. We talk to the farmers who stop their tractors outside about the soil and which seeds worked best last season. It’s all very practical stuff. We don’t use any complicated business words here. We just know what grows well in this ground. Firozpur Road has gotten much busier over the years with all the new shops, but we stayed pretty much the same. My father started this place and I’ve been here since I was a kid. There’s a heavy wooden desk where we keep the accounts in some old registers. We don’t have fancy displays or anything like that. People come to us because they know we’ve been here for a long time and we don’t try to sell them stuff they don’t actually need. It’s a quiet business, mostly following the rhythm of the seasons and the crops.
