Our workshop is right on G.T. Road, near the Water Works. It is a landmark everyone around here knows quite well. B.K. Engineers has been at this spot for ages. You can hear the sound of metal being worked from the street if you walk past. We have got lathes and some older machines that still run better than the new ones we see in catalogs. It is a bit greasy and there is always iron filings on the floor, but that is an engineering shop for you. We do not have a fancy office; it is just a small cabin with a desk where we keep the blueprints and the ledger. Most of the guys here have been working with their hands since they were teenagers. We fix things, we make parts, and we try to solve whatever problem walks through the door. Sometimes it is a farmer with a broken pump, sometimes it is a bigger order for a factory. We do not use a lot of big words or have meetings. If a machine works, it works. We have tea twice a day, usually standing up near the workbench. The traffic on G.T. Road never stops, so there is a constant hum of trucks in the background. It gets very cold in the winter and we huddle around a small heater in the mornings. We just keep our heads down and do the machining. It is not a glamorous life, but it is what we know how to do. We are just local people.
