Gosaiganj Sankalp Farmer Producercompany Limited is based in Karorawa. It’s a village and post office combined, and Jagdish Prasad is one of the main people you’ll see if you drop by. We’re right in the heart of Gosaiganj, and the company was started because a few of us felt that the individual farmers were having too hard of a time on their own. We don't have a shiny office with air conditioning. Usually, we're just sitting in a simple room or out on a porch somewhere in Karorawa talking about what needs to be done. It’s a group effort. We deal with the day-to-day realities of farming in this part of the country, which means worrying about the monsoon and hoping the market prices don’t drop right when we have things to sell. There’s no big secret to what we do; it’s just about sticking together and pooling what we have. Most of the folks involved are just local families who have been working this land forever. We spend a lot of time on the boring stuff like filling out government forms and trying to keep the books straight, which isn’t fun but it’s necessary to keep things legal. We’re not trying to impress anybody with big words or fancy promises. We just want to make sure that the people in Gosaiganj can keep farming and maybe have things a little easier than their parents did. It’s slow work.
