Ilma Play School

Ilma Play School is located at 3J, Mudhali Street in the Melakaveri area of Kumbakonam. We are a small place specifically for the very little children who are not yet ready for the big schools. Our building is basically a converted house, which makes it feel a bit more comfortable for the toddlers. We have rooms filled with colorful mats, plastic toys, and some basic learning blocks. The kids spend their time playing, singing songs, and learning how to get along with each other. It’s often quite noisy with the sounds of laughter and the occasional crying, but that is just how it is with two and three-year-olds. We have a few local women who work here as helpers and teachers. They are patient and spend their whole day making sure the kids are safe and fed. The street outside is usually quiet, except for the occasional scooter passing by. Parents like that we are right here in the neighborhood so they don't have to go far. We don't have a big curriculum or anything like that. We just focus on giving the children a place to be active and learn a few things before they start their formal education. The walls are painted with bright colors and there are drawings everywhere. Sometimes the kids get paints on their clothes or lose a shoe, but that is all part of the work. We just do our job for the families in Melakaveri.
