Thenkani Vegetable Farmer Producercompany Limited started because a few of us around Rayakottai were tired of the old way of doing things. We are located right on the Krishnagiri Mainroad at number 102. Most of us grew up here and have been farming our whole lives. We grow all kinds of vegetables depending on what the season is doing. It is hard work and the sun gets very hot in the afternoons. We handle the collection and the selling together now. It helps us get a slightly better handle on things. The office isn't much to look at, just a place to keep the books and meet up. You will usually find one of us there in the morning before we head out to the fields. We don't have a big staff or anything like that. It is just us and a few helpers when things get busy during the harvest. Sometimes the prices are good and sometimes they are not, that's just how it goes with vegetables. We try to keep things moving so nothing sits around too long. If you pass by the main road you might see the trucks loading up. We have been working this way for a bit and it seems to be working out okay for the families involved here. We don't use any fancy systems, just honest work and trying to keep the crops healthy and the soil in good shape for the next year.
