Mazharul Uloom College, Ambur

Mazharul Uloom College is located in Ambur, and we also work as a spot for the Tamil Nadu Open University courses. Ambur is famous for its leather industry, but inside our gates, the focus is strictly on the books and the classes. It’s a traditional place with a long history in the town. You can tell by the architecture of the buildings and the way the trees have grown over the years. It’s not a brand-new campus, but it has a solid feel to it. We deal with many students who are trying to balance their day jobs with their studies, especially those enrolled in the open university programs through the Vellore connection. It’s not easy for them to manage both, so we try to be as helpful as we can with the registration and the exam schedules. The atmosphere is usually quiet and academic, though it picks up quite a bit when the regular day students are around. We don’t go for any of those big advertisements or glossy brochures. We just let people know when the classes are happening and what they need to study. The staff here are mostly locals from the area. We talk about the local news and the daily weather just as much as we discuss the curriculum. It’s a very grounded way to run a college. We don't have a lot of big events, just the steady routine of teaching and learning. It’s a practical choice for education in our town.
