V M Bakery Products Pvt.Ltd. is based in the PB-2 Industrial Estate in Vijayawada, specifically at 55-16-1. The weather here is almost always hot, which affects how the dough rises, so we have to keep an eye on the temperature inside the unit. It’s a local operation, and many of the people who work here live just a few streets away. We make a variety of bakery items, from simple bread loaves to the rusks people like to dip in their tea. The ovens are the heart of the place, and they’ve been running for many years. There’s a certain rhythm to the work, from the mixing to the baking and then the cooling period. The smell of fresh bread is nice, but after eight hours, you kind of stop noticing it. Our office is just a small room partitioned off from the main floor with some glass that’s usually a bit smudged with flour. We handle the orders for local shops and some of the bigger distributors in the city. It’s not the kind of place where you’d wear a suit; most of us are in casual clothes that we don't mind getting a bit of flour on. We don't do much in the way of sales talk; the orders just seem to come in from the same shops we've dealt with for a long time. It’s a steady, everyday kind of business for us here.
