Pioneer Earth Movers

Down here at the C.M.P. Buildings in Ponkunnam, things stay pretty loud most of the time. We work with heavy equipment, the kind of machines that move dirt and rocks for big construction projects. Our yard is usually full of yellow excavators and backhoes waiting for their next job to start. It is a lot of grease, oil, and heavy metal parts. We are not the type of people to wear suits or sit in air-conditioned offices all day long. Most of us are out there checking the hydraulics or making sure the tracks on the machines are tight. Moving earth is tough work and the machines really take a beating out in the field. We spend a good chunk of our time just doing basic maintenance so nothing breaks down in the middle of a site. Sometimes the bad weather stops us from working, but usually, there is plenty to do in the shop. It is a local business and we have seen the town of Ponkunnam change a lot over the years. We can remember when some of these main roads were just narrow dirt tracks. Now we help build the foundations for the new places going up. It is satisfying to see a big pile of dirt turn into a level lot. We do not do much talking, we just get the machines loaded onto the trailers and send them off. If you are driving past, you cannot miss the big equipment parked out front. It is a straightforward life, keeping the gears turning and the engines running.
