Vijay Diamond

Our place, Vijay Diamond, is at number 80 in the Shopping Centre. It is a small shop in a row of many others. Being in a shopping centre means there are always people walking past the window. We have been here for a good amount of time. The shop is not very large, so we have to be careful with how we use the space. We have a few counters where we show what we have. It is mostly just a quiet spot where we sit and wait for customers or work on some of the pieces. The lighting inside is quite bright so people can see the details of the items. We do not have a big marketing team or anything like that. People usually find us by word of mouth or by just walking through the centre. We keep our records in a thick book behind the counter. Sometimes the mall gets a bit noisy on the weekends when families come out, but during the week it is mostly just us and the other shopkeepers. We know the people in the shops next door quite well. We share tea in the afternoons. It is a basic way of doing business, but it works for us. We focus on the items we have on hand. The glass cases need a lot of cleaning because of the fingerprints. It is just a regular local shop. We have a small clock on the wall that ticks quite loudly when the centre gets quiet in the evenings. It reminds us when it is finally time to lock up.
