Umesh Sale & Scrap

Our shop is number 123 in the Bajaj Khana area of the New Grain Mandi. We go by Umesh Sale & Scrap, and as the name says, we deal with all kinds of leftovers and metal pieces. The mandi is a loud place, especially in the mornings when everyone is moving their goods. We have piles of different materials stacked up against the walls. It looks a bit messy to an outsider, but we know exactly where everything is kept. The weighing scale is the most important thing we own. We have to keep it balanced right so the numbers are fair. I’ve been working here since I was a young man. The air smells like metal and old dust, which is something you just get used to. We get all sorts of people walking in with bits of copper or old iron they want to get rid of. Some of them are regulars who bring us stuff every week. We don't have a lot of room to move around inside because of the stacks. Sometimes a cat wanders in looking for scraps, but there’s nothing for it here. The roof leaks a tiny bit when it pours, so we move the dry stuff to the middle. It’s a simple life. We close up when the mandi starts to quiet down in the evening. There's no big sign out front, just the number on the door that everyone knows. We focus on the metal and the weight.
