Running a decoration business in Gumanpura means we spend a lot of time outdoors and in the heat. We have these big warehouses where we store all the fabric, the wooden frames, and the lights that we use for weddings and local functions. Most of our work happens at night or very early in the morning before an event starts. My clothes are usually stained with a bit of paint or dust from moving the heavy stuff around. It’s a lot of physical labor, climbing ladders and tying knots until your fingers are sore. We have a small office where people come to look at photos of what we’ve done before, but most of the time we are out on a site. Gumanpura is a crowded area, so moving our trucks through the narrow lanes is always a bit of a headache. Sometimes a bulb breaks or a piece of cloth gets a tear, and we have to fix it right there on the spot with whatever we have on hand. It isn't perfect, but once the lights are on and everything is set up, it looks okay for the party. My crew has been with me for years, and we just get on with it without much talk. We aren't big city designers; we just provide what people need for their celebrations. It is hard work but it keeps us busy throughout the wedding season.
