Delhi Engineering Works

You can find us at 245 Shopping Centre, which is a bit of a maze if you aren’t used to the layout. Delhi Engineering Works isn't a retail shop, even though we’re in a shopping center with a lot of other stores. It’s more of a workshop where we handle a lot of metalwork and various repairs. It’s often quite dark inside because of how the building is shaped, so we have to keep the overhead lights on all day long. The floor is usually covered in metal shavings, no matter how much we sweep it at the end of the shift. We have a few lathes and some old drills that have been with us for years. They make a lot of noise, which probably bothers the neighbors in the other units, but they’ve mostly stopped complaining about it. We get a lot of walk-in traffic from people who have something broken and need a quick fix or a custom part made for a machine. It’s a small space, so we have to be very careful where we step so we don't trip over something sharp. There’s a small desk in the corner where we keep the ledger and the phone, but most of the time we’re standing up working on the machines. It gets quite cold in the winter and very stuffy in the summer because there isn’t much airflow in here. We just focus on the task and try to get the jobs done.
