Vikram Deb (Junior) College

Vikram Deb (Junior) College is situated near the Jeypore K Railway Station in Koraput. Being so close to the station means there is always a lot of movement around the area. You can often hear the trains passing by while the students are in their classes. This is a college for the older kids who are finishing up their higher secondary education. The building itself has a lot of history and looks like it has been through many seasons. It is a large structure with high ceilings and some very long corridors. We have science labs that are well-used, though the equipment is not exactly brand new. The students come from different parts of the district, some traveling quite a distance by bus or train every morning. The staff here stays busy with the academic schedule and making sure the exams are conducted properly. It is not a place for lounging around. Most of the day is spent in lectures or in the library, which is a bit cramped but has the books the students need. During the breaks, you will see groups of teenagers standing near the gate or talking in the hallways. We do not have a lot of decorative things around. The focus is strictly on the syllabus and getting through the year. It is a tough road for some of these kids, and we just provide the space and the teachers to help them get through it.
