Western India Cashew Company

Our place is right on Beach Road, sitting directly opposite the District Collector's Bungalow. It is a nice spot because we get a bit of a breeze from the ocean, though it can get quite salty and humid. Western India Cashew Company is where we handle the processing and sorting of cashews. It is a very hands-on environment. We have people working on the floor checking the quality of the nuts and making sure the shells are handled properly. There is always a distinct smell in the air here, a mix of the raw nuts and the processing machinery. It is quite a busy operation and there is rarely a moment of complete silence. We have trucks coming in and out from the plantations and others leaving with the finished products. The floors are concrete and we have to wash them down frequently to keep things clean. It’s hard work and your back can get sore from standing or bending over the sorting tables all day. We have been here for a long time and many of the staff have been with us since the beginning. We don't have fancy marketing or a big sales team. Most of what we do is just manual labor and making sure the quality is what it should be. The location on Beach Road is convenient for transport, even if the salt air is tough on the equipment. We keep a few chairs outside for when someone needs a quick breather.
