If you look for Cashew House, you will find us easily enough. We are at P.B. No. 13, and it’s been our base for a long time. The main thing we do here is process cashews. It is a messy job. There are shells everywhere and the oil from the nuts gets on everything. We have a group of workers who are very fast at peeling the skins off. They sit on low stools and talk while they work. I usually spend my time checking the quality and making sure the ovens are at the right temperature. The heat from the roasting can be quite intense during the middle of the day. We have big fans but they mostly just move the warm air around. The building itself is quite old and has high ceilings. We keep the cashews in big burlap bags until they are ready to be sent out. Sometimes the monkeys come around trying to steal a few nuts from the yard. We have to chase them away with a stick. It’s a steady kind of work. We don't try to do anything fancy, just get the cashews ready for the market. It’s a family-run place and we all know our jobs. The days are long but we are used to it by now.
