The United Trade International

We’re over at 162, C.I.T. Road, in the Scheme-Vii-M area of Ultadanga. If you’ve spent any time in Kolkata, you know Ultadanga is a place that’s always moving, and our spot here is right in the middle of all that energy. The United Trade International operates out of a building that fits right in with the surrounding neighborhood. It’s a practical space where we handle a variety of trading activities throughout the week. The office is usually filled with the sound of phones ringing and people discussing shipping schedules or checking product lists. We don't have a big, fancy reception area with a receptionist; it’s more about having enough room for the metal cupboards, the files, and the computers we use every day. Most of us take the local transport or the bus to get here, so we’re well aware of the daily commute struggles on C.I.T. Road when it rains or during rush hour. The work involves a lot of coordinating between different suppliers and customers, which keeps everyone on their toes. It’s an honest way to make a living, and we’ve been at it for a good number of years now. There’s a certain way things are done here, perhaps a bit old-fashioned in some ways, but it works for us. We drink a lot of tea while we go over the accounts and plan for the next month’s trade. It’s just a normal office where people work hard and try to keep things organized despite the general chaos of the city outside our doors.
