Sukanta Biswas

I’m Sukanta Biswas and I work out of my place in Gandhi Colony. It’s number 1/7 here in Kolkata. If you know this part of the city, you know it’s a lot of narrow streets and houses close together. I like it that way. It’s where I grew up, more or less. My work isn't anything glamorous. I just have a small office set up in one of the rooms. It’s got everything I need, though it gets a bit hot in the summer months even with the fan going full blast. I don’t have a big staff or a receptionist. Usually, it’s just me answering the phone and doing the paperwork. People in the colony know me, so they drop in sometimes to chat. I try to stay organized, but sometimes the piles of paper get a bit high on the table. It’s a real place with real dust and real work happening. I don't spend money on advertising or fancy logos. I think if you do your job, word gets around. Kolkata is a busy place, but Gandhi Colony has its own rhythm. I open up the shutters in the morning and close them when I’m tired. There isn't a board of directors or a five-year plan. I just take things one day at a time and try to be honest with everyone I deal with. It’s just how things are done here.
