You can find us at 34 Strand Road, which is a place that feels like it hasn't changed much in decades. Salebhoy Abbasbhoy & Co has a long history in this building, and you can see it in the thick walls and the heavy wooden doors we still use every day. Being on Strand Road means we are right in the thick of the old trading district, with all the noise and the trucks and the smell of the river nearby. Our office is full of old ledgers and heavy desks that have been here longer than most of the current staff has been alive. We deal in various goods and it’s a lot of manual work, moving things around and making sure the counts are exactly right. It gets very humid here in the summer, and we usually have the windows open to catch whatever breeze comes off the water, even if it brings in the sound of all the traffic and the shouting of the porters. We don't have a website or a marketing department. We just have a telephone that rings quite a lot and a big ledger to write things down by hand. People come to us because they know we have been here forever and we know our business inside out. It is a bit dusty and the stairs are quite steep, but this is home for us. We drink a lot of tea and spend the day sorting through orders. It's the kind of place where things move at their own pace regardless of the world.
