S. M. Exim

Running things out of J. R. Ind. Est. on Bakrahat Road keeps us pretty busy most days. Being in an industrial estate means there is always noise and trucks moving around. Our spot in Bonogram is right near the post office in Rashpunja, which makes things easier for some of our mail. Kolkata weather can be tough on the building, but we make it work. Inside S. M. Exim, it’s mostly just us handling the day-to-day trade details. We have a small crew and everybody knows what they are supposed to do. It isn’t a glamorous place, just a lot of concrete and metal. We get a lot of dust from the road sometimes, so we’re always cleaning off the desks. The work is steady. We handle a lot of different goods coming in and out. Most of the time we are just checking lists and talking to drivers. It gets loud when the neighbors are loading up their freight, but you get used to it after a week. We’ve been here long enough that the tea seller knows exactly how many cups to bring in the afternoon. We don’t have any big corporate goals written on the walls. We just want to finish the day's tasks and make sure nothing gets stuck at the port. It’s a simple operation on Bakrahat Road, and that suits us fine.
