S. D. Heavy Iron Works

S. D. Heavy Iron Works is tucked away in Marshal House on Strand Road. If you know the area, you know it’s Room 70A. We’ve been here for a long time now. The building is old and the hallways are narrow, but it works for us. Most of what we do involves heavy iron pieces that get shipped out to various sites. It’s loud and there’s usually a lot of metal dust around the place. We don’t have a fancy waiting area or anything like that. People just come in and tell us what they need built or fixed. My father started things here and I just kept it going. We have a few guys who have been with us for twenty years. They know the machines better than I do sometimes. Strand Road can be a real mess with the traffic, so getting things in and out is always a bit of a chore. We don't really do much advertising because folks in the trade already know where to find us. It’s just a honest day's work with iron and steel. We don't spend much time on the computer, mostly we are just at the bench or checking the stock. The office part is small and crowded with files. We like it this way. It feels right. I guess we will stay here as long as the building stands.
