Our business, OTHELO TEXTILE PRIVATE LIMITED, is located at 19/B Shyampukur Lane in Kolkata. This is an older part of the city, and the lanes are quite narrow. You have to be careful when you are walking or driving around here because it can get very crowded. The building we are in has been around for a long time and has that classic old Kolkata feel to it. We deal with textiles, so you will see bits of fabric or sample books sitting on almost every surface in the office. It’s not a polished corporate space; it’s more of a workshop and office combined into one. There is always the smell of old paper and maybe some tea being brewed in the back. We don’t have a fancy reception desk or anything like that. If you come by, you just walk in and someone will probably be there at a desk working on an order. It’s a very hands-on kind of environment. We spend a lot of time talking to suppliers and checking on the quality of the materials we have. The people working here are local and we’ve been in this spot for quite a while. It’s just a normal day-to-day operation where we try to keep things moving as best as we can without much fuss. The lights hum a bit and the floor is slightly uneven, but it’s home to us.
