Cottonline

Cottonline is tucked away at 578 Purbha Sinthee Bylane in Dum Dum East. It’s one of those narrow lanes where you have to be careful when two cars try to pass each other. We like it here because it’s a bit quieter than the main roads of Kolkata. Our building is just a regular house that we converted into a workspace and storage area. We don’t have a big staff, just a few of us who have been working together for years. We handle all sorts of cotton goods, mostly checking them over before they go out to shops. The light in the back room isn't the best, so we do most of the checks near the front window where the sun comes in. We don't have a mission statement or a board of directors. We just have a list of things that need to get done before we can go home. Sometimes the monsoon rain leaks in a little near the back door, and we have to scramble to move the stock. It’s just part of life here. We’re not trying to be the biggest company in the city. We just want to do a decent job and keep the business running. Most of our customers are locals who have been coming to this bylane for years. It’s a simple, honest way to spend the day for all of us.
