Mantri Textile & Industries Private Limited is located at 46 Cotton Street, on the third floor. If you have ever been to the Burrabazar area in Kolkata, you know how incredibly narrow and crowded the streets are. It’s a total maze of shops and people carrying huge bundles on their heads. Being on the third floor means we have to haul everything up and down the stairs, which is quite a workout every single day. The office itself is usually packed with ledgers and samples of different textiles. It’s a classic Kolkata trading spot. The building is old, and you can feel the history in the walls. We don’t have much space to move around, so we’ve learned to be very efficient with the square footage we have. The 700007 area is the heart of the textile trade, so we are right in the middle of all the action. We hear the shouts from the street all day long. Dealing with wholesalers and retailers is what fills our time. We spend hours talking, negotiating, and writing down orders in our books. It’s a bit chaotic, but it’s a lifestyle. We don’t use any fancy management software; it’s mostly just hard work and memory. Sometimes we have a quick snack from the street vendors downstairs when we are too busy to go for a proper lunch.
