Malpani Rolling Shutters & Engineering Works

You can find us at Room 117 on the first floor of number 8 Canning Street. It is a busy place here in Calcutta GPO, and the building always has people coming and going throughout the day. We have been Malpani Rolling Shutters & Engineering Works for a long time now. Our shop is not a fancy setup at all. The stairs are a bit steep and the hallways can be narrow, but once you get inside, we have all the tools we need to get the work done. We spend most of our time working with heavy metal and making shutters. It is a lot of manual labor, but we are used to it and it keeps us active. The air inside usually smells like oil and iron, which is just part of this trade. Sometimes it gets really hot in the summer months, but we keep the old fans running and just keep moving with our tasks. We do not have a big corporate office or anything like that. It is just a practical space where we handle customer orders and do the engineering work. People in the neighborhood know us as the place to go when they need their shop doors fixed or a new shutter installed. We do not do much talking; we mostly just focus on the welding and the mechanics of the shutters. It is hard work, and my hands are usually stained with grease, but it is an honest living. We take things one day at a time here.
