The building is one of those older Kolkata structures that has a lot of character. Sometimes the stairs feel like a bit of a climb in the humidity, but we are used to it by now. The office is usually busy with the sound of computers and people talking over each other. We do a lot of consultancy work here and the walls are mostly covered with maps and charts that have been there for years. We get a fair amount of light in the afternoons which is nice. Our desks are usually covered in files and those yellow sticky notes that never seem to stay stuck. We have a small pantry where we make tea and it is usually the busiest spot around four o’clock. People come in and out all day long for different meetings. It is a bit of a maze getting to the flat if you have not been here before, but once you find us, it is quite cozy. We do not spend much on decorations because we are mostly focused on the documents in front of us. It is a practical workspace for a team that has been working together for a long time. Kolkata is a busy city and Swin Hoe Lane is no different.
