Kolapuri Centre

Our shop is located at 56/2A Gariahat Road in Ballygunge. We are pretty close to the Ballygunge Phari petrol pump, which makes it easy for people to find us. We specialize in Kolhapuri chappals and other traditional footwear. The shop is small and smells like leather the moment you walk through the door. We have rows of sandals stacked up, some with lots of stitching and some very plain. Most of our customers are people who have been coming to this part of Gariahat for years. We don't have a big marketing budget or flashy window displays. We just put the shoes out where people can see them and try them on. I usually sit on a small stool near the back where I can keep an eye on everything. Sometimes the leather is a bit stiff at first, but I tell folks it gets better once you wear them for a few days. The traffic on Gariahat Road is always loud, but inside it’s a bit quieter. We’ve seen the neighborhood change a lot, but we keep selling the same kind of shoes because that’s what we know. It’s a simple business. We open mid-morning and stay late into the evening. It’s just us, the leather, and the people walking by. If you want something that lasts and doesn't cost too much, this is where we usually have it in stock.
