Kitchen Queen

The shop is at 4 Bangur Avenue in Block A, right here in Kolkata. Being Kitchen Queen means we have a lot of different things for the house crammed into a relatively small area. Kolkata weather is usually humid, so we keep the fans going at full speed all day. It’s a bit of a squeeze to get through the aisles because we have pots and pans and various plastic containers stacked everywhere. Most of our customers are from the nearby apartments in Bangur. They come in looking for a specific type of ladle or maybe just some storage boxes for their spices. I spend a lot of time dusting the items because the road outside is quite busy and the dust just settles on everything. We don't have a big team, just a couple of us who know where every single item is hidden. If you asked me for a pressure cooker whistle, I could find it with my eyes closed. The shop has been here for a few years and the sign outside is starting to fade a little bit from the sun and rain. We don't do any big advertising or anything. People just walk by and see what we have in the window. It’s a practical business and we just focus on having the stuff that people actually use in their kitchens every day. It is just a simple neighborhood store where we try to keep the shelves full.
