Karamat Exim Private Limited is based at 4, Prasanna Kr Tagore Street in Kolkata. This is one of those old parts of the city with big buildings and high ceilings. Our office is right there, and it’s usually filled with the sound of fans and people talking on their phones. Since we do import and export, there is always a lot of talk about shipping schedules and port delays. We have a lot of old wooden cupboards filled with ledgers and documents that have been around for years. The street outside is always busy with people heading toward the river or the markets nearby. It’s a bit of a maze to get here if you don’t know the way, but it’s a great area for business. We spend most of our time coordinating with different people to make sure things move from one place to another. It’s not always easy and there are plenty of days where nothing goes according to plan. We just sit around our desks and try to figure things out as they come. There is no big marketing team here, just a few of us who know the ropes of the export trade. We’ve been at this address for a while and we like the atmosphere of North Kolkata. It feels like a real place where people actually work for a living. We just keep the papers moving and the shipments going.
