Fabric Centre

Fabric Centre is located up on the 3rd floor at P 17 Kalakar Street. It’s a bit of a trek up the stairs, especially when you’re carrying a heavy roll of cloth, but we’re used to it. Kalakar Street is always bustling with people and carts, so getting things delivered to the door can be a bit of a challenge sometimes. Inside, it’s mostly just rows of fabric stacked from floor to ceiling. We don't have much room for anything else, so our small desk is tucked into a corner under a window. The light there is okay for checking colors during the day. We’ve been here at P 17 for a long time, and the floorboards have a bit of a creak to them. Most of our day is spent helping people find the right material or folding things back up after they’ve been looked at. It’s a lot of manual work, and our hands are usually a bit rough by the end of the week. We don’t do much in the way of advertising; people usually find us through word of mouth or because they’ve been coming here for years. We keep a small radio playing in the background to pass the time. It’s a simple life here on the third floor, just us and the fabric, dealing with the daily bustle of the street below and the heat of the afternoon.
