Ganesh Chandra Avenue is always a bit of a chaotic place to work, but we’ve been at number 51 for a long time. It’s one of those old buildings where you can feel the history, and the staircases are a bit narrow for moving some of the smaller machine parts up and down. We deal with all sorts of industrial stuff here. The office is usually filled with the sound of the ceiling fans and people talking over the noise of the street outside. It’s not a quiet place, but you get used to it. We have shelves packed with technical books and old records because we’ve been in this trade for quite a stretch. Customers usually come in with a specific part they need or a problem with a machine back at their shop. We spend a lot of time on the phone or looking through catalogs to find exactly what fits. It’s a lot of old-school business, handshakes and regular faces who have been coming to us for decades. Sometimes the rain floods the street a little, which makes getting things delivered a bit of a challenge, but we manage. We don't have a big corporate setup. It’s just a few rooms where we handle the orders and talk to suppliers. Every morning starts with a cup of tea and a look at the schedule. It’s a steady kind of life in a very busy part of the city. We just keep our heads down and do the work.
