Indyloom India Private Limited is our little company based on Hazra Road. We’re on the first floor at 54/1/2. If you know Kolkata, you know Hazra Road can be quite a trip with all the traffic. Our office is right above the street level, so we hear the honking all day long. We work mostly with textiles and loom-related stuff. It’s a bit of a traditional business, really. We’ve got stacks of fabric samples piled up in the corners. Sometimes it’s hard to find a place to put your coffee cup. We started this because we wanted to do something with the local weaving traditions. It’s not always easy dealing with the different mills and weavers, but we manage. There’s a lot of back and forth on the phone. We aren’t the type to have a polished reception area. If you come in, you’ll probably see us arguing over a shade of blue or checking the weight of a cloth. It’s a hands-on kind of job. We like the smell of the raw cotton and the sound of the scissors. We try to keep things honest and straightforward. Some of us have been working together for over a decade. We’ve seen the neighborhood change a lot, but we’re still here doing our thing on the first floor. It’s just a normal day for us, and we wouldn't have it any other way.
